Allergy Testing

Allergies are more common than what you think. It is especially common in children, although adults can also develop allergies to substances that they were not previously allergic to when they were younger. An allergic reaction can be triggered when a person’s immune system overreacts to an allergen and produces antibodies called Immunoglobulin E (IgE). These antibodies trigger the release of histamine, a chemical that causes symptoms during an allergic reaction, such as:

  • Hives

  • Itching

  • Rhinitis

  • Rashes

  • Itchy & watery eyes

  • Itchy throat

An allergic reaction can be mild, showing symptoms such as the above. Sometimes, an allergic reaction could also be very much life threatening. This type of condition is known as anaphylaxis.

At Etern Medical, we offer a variety of allergy testing services, such as a simple single allergen test to something more comprehensive like a group of allergens. It can be completed via a skin prick test or a blood test to ascertain whether you have any allergy to begin with. Allergy blood tests can reveal what triggers your allergy symptoms and help your doctor to decide the best treatment plan for you.
