For Individuals who have completed 1 Dose of PCV13 and 2 Doses of PPSV23. PCV20 can be taken at 5-year intervals. What does it do? It is a conjugate vaccine that protects against invasive disease and pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. PCV20 covers the strains in PCV13, plus 7 additional strains. Why is it recommended? Pneumococcal disease can lead to severe illness, including pneumonia, meningitis, and even death. The PCV20 vaccine offers a simpler, one-dose regimen for many patients. Recommended for individuals with weak immune system (e.g., Rheumatoid Arthritis, Gout, Lupus, Diabetes, Asthma) Possible Side Effects Similar to most vaccines, the pneumococcal vaccines can sometimes cause mild side effects. These include: Low grade fever Redness / mild swelling at the injection site Lethargy or muscle ache Shingle Vaccination (Shingrix) Shingrix is a recombinant herpes zoster vaccine that effectively prevents shingles and its complications. Previously, the cost of Shingrix made it less accessible, but after discussions between MOH and the manufacturer, the price has been reduced to ensure it is cost-effective and accessible to those who need it most. Who Should Get Shingrix? Shingrix is recommended for: All adults aged 60 years and above Immunocompromised adults aged 18 to 59 years Who has acquired Chickenpox previously. What if I have already taken the Zostavax vaccine? If you have previously received the Zostavax vaccine, you can still get the Shingrix (RHZV) vaccine. Wait at least 5 years after your Zostavax dose before getting Shingrix. For adults aged 70 or older: A shorter interval of at least 1 year may be considered. Possible Side Effects Shingrix is generally well-tolerated. Some individuals may experience: Mild pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site Fatigue, headache, or muscle aches Fever or gastrointestinal discomfort These effects are usually temporary and resolve within a few days. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccine The Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common respiratory virus that can lead to severe illness, especially in high-risk individuals. The RSV vaccine offers a powerful way to prevent serious complications. Who is at Risk? Infants and young children Adults aged 60 and above Adults aged 50–59 with underlying chronic conditions, such as: Heart or lung disease Diabetes Kidney disease Immunosuppression Why Vaccinate? High-Risk Groups : The vaccine helps protect high-risk individuals from severe RSV-related complications, such as pneumonia, bronchiolitis, and the worsening of existing conditions like asthma or COPD, which can require hospitalization. Pregnant Women & Newborns: Pregnant women can also receive the vaccine between 32 and 36 weeks of pregnancy and pass immunity to their babies, providing essential protection against severe RSV infections after birth. Vaccine Schedule A single dose of the RSV vaccine is recommended for adults and during each pregnancy.
